About Me
Hi! Welcome to my page!
I am a grauduate student at
Dartmouth college working to
understand the nature and history
of the super massive black holes
we see in the universe today.
My journey as an astronomer didn't begin until my junior year at California State University, Northridge. As a black student taking physics and astronomy courses at the college level, I never saw research as a viable career path, due to the nonexistent representation I saw in my classrooms. It wasn't until my junior year when I was accepted into the Calbridge Scholars program, a program dedicated to increasing the percentage of students from underrepresented background in academia. Thanks to the mentorship provided by the Calbridge program, I had my first research experience in astronomy under the tutelage of Dr. Johanna Teske at the Carnegie Institute of Pasadena. During this expereience I quickly fell in love with the astronomy community at Carnegie, and it became the motivation behind my decision to apply to graduate schools. Since my time at Carnegie, I've only grown fonder of astronomy as a career choice. My journey so far in academia is testament to the importance of representaion and great mentorships, which is why I hold these responsibilities just as important as the very science im pursuing.
